A count of individuals who authored a commit within a given time range.

Why it matters: When a high number of team members are available to code, it can be a team strength. Looking at this metric over the short term helps you understand the number of team members that can help advance work. Looking at Active Contributors over the long term helps you understand team growth.

How to use it: If Active Contributors is below what you’d expect, you’ll need to investigate what’s impacting availability-- whether it’s something that’s inevitable like PTO, or something structural like too many meetings. If it’s what you’d expect, next, you’ll need to look at the ratio of Work in Progress to Active Contributor.
