Definition

The total count of issues opened over a given period of time.

Why it Matters

This metric analyzes how many issues are opened across all Jira Projects in a single view and represents the total volume of work your engineering team has coming through the pipeline.

How to use it

Use Issues Opened to address the scope of all work in your backlog and determine whether it’s in line with your team’s engineering capacity. If the number of Issues Opened is not in line with your team’s current available resources, you may want to consider refocusing your team’s priorities and initiatives.

Use the advanced filtering to view issues opened by epic, project, issue type and sprint to get even more insight into what type of work is being created in a given time period.
